The Regional Planning Program is involved in a broad range of topic areas. The following are current projects:
Solid waste management: The solid waste management system in Hampton Roads is quite dynamic. The HRPDC serves as the solid waste planning agency for southside Hampton Roads and in that role is responsible for updating the regional solid waste management plan when changes occur in the system. In addition, the HRPDC compiles the region’s recycling rate report on an annual basis.
Expanding rural access to high-speed internet: The HRPDC is managing a Virginia Telecommunications Initiative grant project that is expanding high-speed internet access in Suffolk, Southampton, and Isle of Wight.
Economic Development: Economic development: The HRPDC is managing site readiness initiatives in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and Southampton County.
